Sometimes accidents happen. There are good accidents and there are bad accidents and they happen every day. There’s no changing it. Good accidents are like stumbling across five dollars when you need it, finding someone’s lost shoe or bumping into that friend you haven’t seen in forever.

Then there are bad accidents. These accidents generally do not benefit the wellbeing of the parties they involve. That too will never change. Bad accidents are car crashes, plane crashes, knocking someone down and getting into a fight. Bad accidents happen way more often than good ones.

The way it happened was a complete accident. But it sparked a huge chain reaction. Sometimes chain reactions are good. Sometimes they’re terrible. And this one was not good at all. But life throws you curves and you go with it.

It had started with Minwoong. He was walking through the living room and hadn’t noticed that his jacket (which was dragging on the ground) had snagged on the living room lamp. So when he walked farther than his attached jacket would allow, the lamp fell over and caused a large noise which scared Minwoong half to death.

He ran into the kitchen, holding his jacket close, and wondering if someone was now after him (and that had happened multiple times before. Usually it was Changmin).

“Jaejoong-umma! Jaejoong-umma! I have something to tell you!” Minwoong yelled as he careened into the kitchen and wrapped his arms around Jaejoong’s neck. There was a commotion as Minwoong tried to explain that someone was after him and Jaejoong tried to figure out what was going on.

Yunho simply pulled up a chair and sat down, waiting for the hullabaloo to subside. Changmin just didn’t bother listening. Sungmin had a hard time trying not to laugh at Minwoong’s behaviour and Kyuhyun merely laughed point blank.

Junsu, who had come up from the night shift, stared at Minwoong with wide eyes and then burrowed into Yoochun, mumbling something about saving him from a crazy Minwoong. Yoochun immediately wrapped his arms around Junsu in a protective manner and steered him away up the stairs.

Eventually, Jaejoong decided to go and investigate what had happened and took Yunho with him in order to make Minwoong feel “doubly safe”, whatever that meant.

“It’s all right. All you did was knock down the lamp in here. Yunnie and I are setting it back up right now. Don’t worry, everything’s under control,” Jaejoong reported. There was a moment of silence as Minwoong blushed sheepishly and Sungmin had to stop himself from laughing all over again.

“Oh my god! Look at this!”

“Damn it! How did we not think of this before?”

“Get headquarters on the phone. This is more serious than we realized.”

There was an exclamation of anger and a few swear words were exchanged. Sungmin looked worriedly at Kyuhyun and then dashed into the living room. Jaejoong was holding a white thing in his hand and was glaring at it angrily. Yunho was talking on a cellphone and looked extremely pissed off.

“What’s going on?” Sungmin asked.

“We found this in your lamp. Do you know what it is?” Jaejoong asked. Sungmin shook his head. He heard Minwoong and Kyuhyun enter the room.

“It’s a microphone. We’re going to check the rest of the house and if there are more of them, we need to move immediately,” Yunho explained. Sungmin had stopped listening after the word “microphone”. So that was how they knew. And if they knew that much, what else did they know?

“Come on, let’s search the rest of the house. Kyuhyun, Sungmin, you check everything that you think might hold a microphone. Changmin and Minwoong, you guys know what to do. Wake up Junsu and Yoochun if necessary. Let’s go,” Jaejoong took Yunho with him as they went to search the rest of the house.

Sungmin and Kyuhyun brought everything that could possibly hold a microphone. It wasn’t a grim search but it was damn near close. All in all, they found around fifty different microphones scattered throughout the house with varying colours and sizes.

Once they all had the microphones put on the dining room table, Yunho began to talk but Jaejoong shushed him. After all, they might have missed some microphones. They needed to communicate with each other but how were they to do that? Minwoong’s face suddenly grew brighter and he produced a pad of paper and a pen.

What should we do now? Should we destroy them all?Minwoong wrote. Yunho shook his head violently, took the pen from Minwoong and began to write his own message.

Of course not! We’re going to destroy them slowly, one by one. That way they won’t be suspicious. So what we should do is group them all together in one room and then we won’t speak of anything important there. We should also speak in hushed tones. We may have missed some. Yunho scribbled. Jaejoong nodded in agreement.

That’s a good idea, can we stop writing now?
Minwoong asked.

Only if you PROMISE to whisper. Yunho replied. Minwoong nodded.

“Okay, so is this the room we’ll keep them in?” Kyuhyun whispered.

“No, we’ll put them in the linen closet upstairs,” Jaejoong pointed up towards the stairs.

“And we should be speaking like this?” Sungmin asked, his own voice so soft he could barely hear it. Yunho gave him an affirmative signal.

“Yes. That way it will be harder for them to hear us,” Changmin replied.

“We’re going to be talking like that the entire time?!” Minwoong yelped. Changmin clapped his hand over the younger one’s mouth.

“I thought you were going to whisper!” Changmin hissed.

“Whoops,” Minwoong grinned sheepishly, his voice muffled from Changmin’s hand over his mouth. Changmin rolled his eyes.

“I will buy you a muzzle if it keeps you quiet!” The elder one poked the younger man. Minwoong glared at him.

“Be quiet both of you! Have you forgotten where we are?” Jaejoong shushed the two of them, pointing at the table with all the microphones on them. That shut the two of them up quite effectively.

“That being said,” Yunho began, completely ignoring the battle between Minwoong and Changmin, “we need to begin looking for a new house. You can’t stay in this one. It will have to be somewhere inconspicuous but obvious.”

“Shouldn’t it be somewhere far away?” Kyuhyun whispered. Yunho dragged all of them into the kitchen, away from the microphones.

“No, that will just result in them finding you faster because they know you’re running away. We’ve got to somehow get your possessions out of this house and into the new one. That will be tricky.”

“And we must find a house for them to live safely in which we can install security measures,” Jaejoong added, finished chastising Changmin and Minwoong who were glaring daggers at each other.

“And it has to have enough space to store all of our equipment,” Changmin piped up, deciding that Minwoong wasn’t worth glaring at.

“Yes, so it needs to be relatively the size of this house and…..” Yunho trailed off, uncertain.

“What is it?” Sungmin asked.

“You may not be able to leave the house,” Jaejoong supplied. Sungmin turned to look at Kyuhyun. He was the one who worked at a place where not being let out of your house would be considered a problem. Kyuhyun remained impassive.

“All right. And when is this move expected to take place?” Kyuhyun asked.

“Not for a while. We need to get you a house first and then move whatever possessions are absolutely necessary for you to have and then actually get you to the place,” Changmin answered for Yunho and Jaejoong.

“So we have time. I’ll speak to Jiyong and Seunghyun and we can work out something,” Kyuhyun nodded.

“All right. I have to go phone the superintendent and tell him of the new arrangements. Changmin and Minwoong, get back to decoding, we’ll need those letters as soon as possible,” Yunho instructed. The two of them nodded, their earlier fight forgotten and they walked off to the basement together.

“Kyuhyun….it isn’t a problem for me to stay home, I know Ryeowook will run the store for me. But I don’t want you to lose your job,” Sungmin whispered to Kyuhyun.

“Minnie, I would much rather lose my job than lose you. If I have to stay at home, so be it. And I think we can work something out with Jiyong and Seunghyun and even if I can’t, I’ll still be with you. So either way for me it’s win-win,” Kyuhyun smiled and kissed Sungmin.

“SO WHY ARE WE WHISPERING?!” Yesung hissed loudly, sitting down on the sofa. Ryeowook elbowed him to make him be quieter.

“There may be microphones recording everything we say,” Ryeowook explained. Yesung’s eyes widened.

“We’re lucky that Kangin couldn’t come then. He would probably demolish the house in order to discover others,” Yesung commented.

“You may be glad but I’m dying inside,” Eeteuk retorted, settling down comfortably on a chair.

“Awww, how romantic!” Yesung teased. Eeteuk resisted the urge to hit him on the head. After all, ummas do not do that to their children.

“Respect your appa!” Eeteuk reprimanded Yesung. Sungmin laughed quietly.

“It’s nice to see you guys, what are you doing here?” Sungmin asked.

“Isn’t it obvious? We came to see how you’re doing. Ryeowookie has been getting lonely down at the flower shop,” Eeteuk smiled.

“I’m sorry. I’m no longer allowed out. Ever since Seunghyun got shot-” Sungmin was cut off.

“WHAT?! SEUNGHYUN GOT SHOT?!” Eeteuk screeched. Ryeowook jumped forwards and placed his hand on Eeteuk’s mouth. Eeteuk looked at everyone apologetically.

“Yeah,” Sungmin whispered. “He walked out of the gates and got shot. Jaejoong and Yunho think that they thought he was me. So now I’m going to lay low for a while,” Sungmin explained.

“So you won’t be coming back to the flower shop?” Ryeowook pouted. Sungmin shook his head.

“Not for a while, Wookie,” Sungmin replied.

“Yah, only I can call him Wookie,” Yesung interrupted.

“Fine, RYEOWOOKIE,” Sungmin rolled his eyes good-naturedly. Yesung nodded in approval. Eeteuk smiled as Yunho walked in the room and sat down on the couch Sungmin was on.

“How are you doing?” Eeteuk asked. Yunho sighed.

“I’m worried. Sungmin is more sought after than we realized. Because of the microphone business, we’re going to have to move,” Yunho explained in a whisper. Ryeowook and Yesung moved close to hear him. Sungmin had already heard all of this and simply waited until Yunho was finished explaining.

“I’m sorry for causing you all to worry so much,” Sungmin apologized.

“It’s our job,” Jaejoong said, waving a dismissive hand as he walked into the room and plopped himself down on Yunho’s lap. “We get paid to worry about the safety of others.”

“It’s true, so don’t feel bad, okay, Sungmin?” Minwoong followed after Jaejoong and sat himself on the floor then placed a comforting hand on Sungmin’s knee.

“I’m worried for you, not me,” Sungmin protested.

“Then stop. It’s not good for your health,” Minwoong instructed. Sungmin smiled. He was lucky to have protectors like these.

“Sungie protects me very well,” Ryeowook snuggled close to Yesung who wrapped his arms around Ryeowook and kissed him lightly on the head. Sungmin smiled at the two of them.

“OMO! Those two are so cute!” Minwoong pointed at Ryeowook and Yesung who stared at him as though he had grown two heads. An arm reached past Sungmin and pushed Minwoong’s hand down.

“Pointing is rude,” Jaejoong smiled.

“But they’re so cute, Jae-umma!” Minwoong protested.

“Who’s cuter, me and Sungmin or Yesung and Ryeowook?” Kyuhyun asked, walking over to Sungmin. His hyung’s eyes grew brighter and softer as he made his way towards him. Sungmin smiled tenderly as Kyuhyun sat beside him and wrapped his arm around his shoulders.

“You’ve probably just asked him the hardest question of all time,” Jaejoong smiled.

“He’s adorable, Jaejoong. Where did you get him?” Eeteuk asked, looking fondly at Minwoong.

“We took him under our wing when he joined the police force,” Jaejoong explained, gesturing between him and Yunho.

“He’s cute,” Eeteuk observed.

“You can’t adopt him, Eeteuk. He’s already ours!” Jaejoong pouted.

“Shh! He’s making his decision,” Yunho pointed at the youngest man on the floor.

“Uhh…” Minwoong looked between the two couples. “Kyuyeminwook!” Minwoong looked pleased at his solution.

“I don’t do foursomes,” Yesung shook his head.

“I’m not sharing my Minnie with anyone,” Kyuhyun held Sungmin protectively.

Sungmin was about to open his mouth to respond when the doorbell rang. Kyuhyun and Sungmin looked at each other quizzically. Ryeowook’s eyes widened and he held onto Yesung tighter.

Jaejoong, however, sprang up quickly and went to the door. Kyuhyun held Sungmin close to him. He didn’t know why but he felt apprehensive. Ryeowook seemed to feel the same way because he cast a concerned glance towards the pair of them.

Yunho seemed unconcerned and Minwoong was secretly tying Eeteuk’s shoelaces together, also indifferent to whomever was on the other side of the door. Sungmin unconsciously moved closer to Kyuhyun.

Jaejoong walked back into the room with a man in tow. Sungmin gazed towards the two of them.

“This is Lee Youngsoo. He’s the guy who makes all the decisions for your safety and gives us instructions. He’s the head of our division. I called him here to help us decide where we should move,” Jaejoong explained. “Youngsoo, meet Sungmin, Kyuhyun, Eeteuk, Yesung and Ryeowook,” Jaejoong introduced them all.

“Nice to meet you. I’m Eeteuk,” the man stood up and began moved forwards to shake Youngsoo’s hand. Minwoong put his hands over his mouth. Eeteuk took a step and fell face first onto the floor.

“Teukie-umma! Are you okay?!” Sungmin asked, moving to help Eeteuk up. He felt eyes on his back and turned his head slightly to see Youngsoo looking at him and smiling, his white teeth gleaming.

“What happened?” Eeteuk asked, looking around dazedly. Minwoong broke out into loud laughter. He pointed at Eeteuk’s running shoes and began laughing harder.

“Minwoong! You don’t tie the shoelaces of your elders together! I thought we taught you better than that!” Jaejoong scolded.

“I’m sorry, Jae-umma. But he’s so oblivious!” Minwoong rolled over and continued to laugh. Eeteuk blushed a bright red and began to untie the knot in his shoelaces.

“Well, in any case, it’s nice to meet you,” Eeteuk said.

“A pleasure to meet you too,” Youngsoo greeted Eeteuk. Sungmin looked at him and the head of the police division looked back. Sungmin felt shivers rise up through his spine. The man’s dark eyes reminded him of someone, he just didn’t know who.

“Kyuhyun,” Sungmin whispered.

“What is it?” Kyuhyun answered, looking concernedly at his husband. Sungmin didn’t reply. He was scared of those dark eyes and white teeth that kept smiling at him and following every movement he made.
