Kyuhyun checked Sungmin thoroughly. Was there no part of his body untouched? His clothing was in tatters, one of his shoulders was dislocated and one of his arms broken. He wanted to kill whoever had done this to his lover. Kyuhyun picked Sungmin up gently.

“Ah!” Sungmin gasped and his hand tightened on Kyuhyun’s arm.

“What’s wrong?” Kyuhyun asked, scared half to death.

“I think I got some broken ribs. It’s fine, the pain is gone now,” Sungmin replied. His blood was staining the younger’s clothes but Kyuhyun didn’t care. He had to get him to a hospital. Fast. He placed him in the passenger seat of his car and hurried to the driver’s side.

He immediately put the car in drive and sped off. Sungmin was losing blood every minute and Kyuhyun was absolutely terrified. Sungmin’s breathing was ragged and his skin looked almost a sickly pale colour. Kyuhyun took one hand off the steering wheel and laced his fingers with Sungmin’s.

“Kyu…why do you look so worried?” Sungmin’s soft voice penetrated the thick atmosphere of the car. Kyuhyun swallowed and turned to look briefly at his lover. Sungmin gazed at him with loving, half closed eyes.

“I’m….we….you have to go to a hospital, Minnie. You’re badly hurt,” Kyuhyun responded, not wanting to worry Sungmin by professing his fears. Sungmin simply smiled and let his head fall against the window lightly.

“I’ll be fine in a while. I just don’t like you looking like that. It’s not Kyuhyun-like,” Sungmin breathed.

“Shh, don’t talk. You’re hurt, please don’t speak. I don’t want you to waste unnecessary energy,” Kyuhyun stopped at a traffic light and drummed his fingers impatiently on the steering wheel. Sungmin kept his fingers closed on Kyuhyun’s.

“It’s not a waste when I talk to you, Kyu. It makes me sad when you look like that,” Sungmin whispered. With great and painful effort, he pushed himself off of the window and leaned on Kyuhyun’s shoulder, his eyes closing.

“Minnie, please don’t strain yourself,” Kyuhyun begged. Sungmin nuzzled the younger slowly.

“It’s not a strain. It’s helpful, it keeps me awake.”

“Sungmin, what happened to you?” Kyuhyun asked, unable to contain himself. He would let Sungmin speak for a little while. After that he would have to rest.

“Some of Jiwon’s men….came to the apartment….they shot me with a tranquilizer…I tried to fight them but they were too strong. I knocked down one of the plants. Was it the right one? Was it the one that meant danger?” Sungmin asked.

“Yes, it was the rhododendron.”

“Good. They took me to a car and we drove and I couldn’t stay awake. When I woke up my hands were chained together and the chain was attached to the floor. Jiwon came and beat me a little but, Kyu, I fought him. I managed…..I managed to give him a taste of his own medicine as well….he put some sort of collar on me. It shocked me with electricity. Then he called in…..his gang members……they tortured me too…knives….whips…their fists….anything they could use….and then someone told me to pretend I was being hurt and to pretend to be dead. I did so and this man named Kim Seunghae….he got me out.”

“Shh, Sungmin. Rest now okay?” Kyuhyun turned his head slightly and kissed the top of Sungmin’s matted hair. Sungmin nodded and let himself relax against his lover.

That drive was the most frightening thing Kyuhyun had ever had to go through. He was constantly afraid that Sungmin’s small hand might slip from his and he would lose his lover.

The stoplights seemed to be against them as they stopped for what seemed like the billionth time. Kyuhyun took the opportunity to look carefully at his hyung. He swallowed as he brushed a few strands of Sungmin’s hair off of his forehead.

“I don’t understand how I found you. I had passed you,” Kyuhyun whispered. His mind was filled with thoughts of what might have happened if he hadn’t backed up. He didn’t want to think about it but the thoughts poured in on their own.

“We’re soul mates, Kyu. We’re connected by the red thread remember? No matter what, we’ll always find each other,” Sungmin responded tiredly. The effect of those words on Kyuhyun was almost more than he could take.

His eyes watered and the red light of the traffic sign became blurry. He brushed away the tears as the light changed and they sped off again. Kyuhyun wondered what the point of having a super fast car was when he couldn’t use the speed because of all the slow drivers on the road. He had to get help for Sungmin.

Sungmin held Kyuhyun’s hand tighter. He felt oddly dizzy. He hated that he had caused Kyuhyun so much pain. The only reason he held on for so long was to see Kyuhyun again. His body was tired and so was he. Was there any strength left in him to keep going?

The pain from his wounds was clouding his mind. Dark spots were appearing in front of his eyes and he felt darkness take hold of him and try to pull him under. No. He refused to go. He refused to leave. Not now. He struggled against the rising tide of tiredness.

He blinked wearily and turned his head to look up at Kyuhyun. The younger male meant so much to him. At least Jiwon didn’t know about Kyuhyun and this would keep him safe. Sungmin was thankful for that. He tried to lean deeper into Kyuhyun, wanting to be closer to him.

His mind filled with the memories of their night together. Kyuhyun was gentle, oh so gentle and was probably the one thing that saved him from being killed. He was grateful for this and it made him love the younger one even more. He was the reason he was holding on now. He didn’t want to leave Kyuhyun just yet. Selfish as that might be, he wanted to stay and feel Kyuhyun near him continuously.

Sungmin coughed and felt one of his broken ribs shift. The injury throbbed harshly and Sungmin gasped. Kyuhyun heard the sharp intake of breath and immediately held Sungmin’s hand tighter.

“What’s wrong, Sungmin? What happened?” Kyuhyun asked, his desire to get Sungmin the treatment he needed multiplying largely. Sungmin bit his lip as the pain subsided.

“Nothing, my ribs aren’t as strong as before,” Sungmin answered, his voice small. Kyuhyun’s eyes narrowed and he sped up.

Kyuhyun turned the steering wheel forcefully and the car skidded around a corner. He had to get Sungmin help now. He was not going to let Sungmin slip away from him.

You aren’t going to leave me. Not when I just got you back. You can’t leave me, Sungmin. I refuse to let you go.

Kyuhyun stepped on the gas. The streetlights flashed by and Kyuhyun felt as though he was driving into a nightmare. He couldn’t stand the thought of Sungmin dying and he banished the idea from his mind completely. He focused on getting to a hospital as soon as possible.

Kyuhyun screeched around another corner and swerved into the parking lot of the hospital. He let out a sigh of relief as he got out of the car and ran to Sungmin’s door. He opened it quickly and took Sungmin into his arms as gently but as quickly as he possibly could.

He cradled Sungmin carefully as he walked into the emergency room.

“Please, I need help. He’s badly injured and he may be dying. Please, someone help!” Kyuhyun pleaded. One of the nurses came over and looked over the smaller man in his arms.

“Hmm, injuries to the scalp, a deep wound in the side, a dislocated shoulder and more severe injuries. He must be helped immediately. He seems to have a large amount of blood loss. Place him on this stretcher and we’ll help him immediately,” The nurse brought him over to a white mobile bed and Kyuhyun placed Sungmin on the soft surface gently.

He bit his lip and swallowed the tears that threatened to fall as he watched the sheets underneath Sungmin turn dark red. A doctor in a white lab coat came over and began to wheel Sungmin through the emergency room doors. Kyuhyun followed him.

“Wait, sir, you can’t go through here. It’s only patients from here on in,” A nurse stopped him from following.

“I have to be with him. I just have to,” Kyuhyun protested. The nurse shook her head.

“I’m sorry sir. You cannot proceed past this point. You will fill out the paperwork needed for…”

“Sungmin, Lee Sungmin,” Kyuhyun answered. Sungmin smiled at him weakly. Kyuhyun took his hand and squeezed lightly.

“Yes, Mr. Lee. You cannot go in with him, Mr…” the nurse paused again.

“Cho Kyuhyun.”

“Yes, Mr. Cho, you must wait out here. We’ll take good care of him. Hurry, if we don’t move quickly it will be too late,” The nurse began pushing the stretcher. Kyuhyun let his fingers slide through Sungmin’s slowly, not wanting to let go but knowing that he must.

“Wait, Kyuhyun!” Sungmin called, his voice cracking. Kyuhyun tightened his grip on the little of Sungmin’s hand he still held.

“What is it?” he asked.

“Kyuhyun-ah, I love you,” Sungmin smiled, turning his head to look at Kyuhyun dead on. Their gazes met and the younger felt fresh tears start in his eyes. He blinked them away.

“I love you too,” Kyuhyun answered. Their entwined fingers broke apart as the doctors wheeled Sungmin away quickly, talking about blood transfusions and other things that made no sense to Kyuhyun. He simply watched as the one he loved was taken away once more.

It was then that he realized how much he truly loved Sungmin. It was painful to see him leave again. He wanted nothing more than to run after Sungmin and tell him that everything would be okay. That he would survive.

Instead, he was led to a waiting room with a bunch of other people and handed some forms. Kyuhyun thought about the rest of Sungmin’s family and quickly pulled out his cellphone. He dialled Eeteuk’s number and waited for him to pick up.

“Kyuhyun, we still haven’t-”

“I found him, Eeteuk-hyung. We’re at Jaseung Hospital. Can you come down?”

“You found him?! Where?! Oh never mind that now. I’ll pick everybody up and we’ll be there with you, okay?”

“Okay, Eeteuk-hyung.”

Kyuhyun hung up then dialled another number.

“Still haven’t found anything, Kyuhyun. Maybe-”

“It’s okay, G-Dragon. I found him. We’re at the hospital. You know why.”

“Is he hurt badly?”

“He’s not exactly thriving.”

“I wish we could be there. Seunghyun was freaking out. Sungmin is like his little brother. But some corporate business wants him to go for dinner and he needs to take me. He says without me there is like having steak without rice.”

“You should go to the dinner, G-Dragon. It’s important. Sungmin will be fine.”

“Give him our best wishes. And Kyuhyun?”

“What?”

“Seunghyun won’t accept your apology. He says there’s nothing for you to apologize for. It’s Jiwon who should answer for it.”

“Thank you. Bye, Jiyong.”

“Bye, Kyuhyun. Tell Sungmin to get better soon!”

“I will.”

Kyuhyun hung up the phone. Now all he could do was wait. There wasn’t much he could do but wait. And he hated it. He wanted to be with Sungmin, wherever he was. He wanted to let his lover know that he would be okay.

Sungmin was tired, oh so tired. He was wheeled into a white room with different staff running around. He felt frightened by the appearance of all the doctors and wished Kyuhyun were there with him. The medical personnel surrounding him were all dressed in light blue clothes, some of them blood stained some of them not.

Sungmin felt as though he were drifting in a sea of noise and movement. He could hear the doctors speaking but faintly as though everything were muted. He felt his consciousness slip and flicker. His shoulder was set in a certain position but Sungmin didn’t have the energy to react. He was too busy trying to stay awake.

“Poor kid. See this knife wound? It’s huge. I wonder if he’s been in a fight? It certainly looks like it. His clothes are all ripped. His shoulder should be fixed easily.”

“It does look bad doesn’t it? See this scalp wound? It’s going to need stitches. I’m surprised he hasn’t already died from blood loss. We’ll need to give him a blood transfusion and fast. Hurry, we may lose him if we wait too long.”

Sungmin was afraid. He didn’t want to die now. He couldn’t leave Kyuhyun just yet. As selfish as it was, he wanted to be with Kyuhyun forever. Sungmin fought the rising tide of darkness that threatened to engulf him. But he was tired, oh so tired.

There was a general commotion outside the hospital doors and Kyuhyun looked around confused. There was a great deal of shouting and a large group of people seemed to be yelling at everyone. Through the babble, Kyuhyun heard a familiar voice.

“Move out of my way! I have a hurt child to attend to!” Eeteuk shoved a good five people into each other and Heechul fixed them all with his glare, sending shivers down their spines. Ryeowook hurried into the hospital with Yesung close behind. Kangin just stood there, amazed that Eeteuk didn’t need his strength. Hankyung apologized to all of those on the outside who were harassed in some manner and Kibum simply walked in.

“Where’s Sungmin?” Eeteuk asked, looking around as though a sign might tell him where Sungmin was.

“He’s in the emergency rooms right now. I have no idea what’s happening. You know the most about Sungmin. Do you want to fill out the forms?”

Eeteuk consented and the ten of them stayed in the waiting room. Afraid of news but welcoming it.
